Βελονισμός στην Εγκυμοσύνη και τον Τοκετό / Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Labour

Ένα εντατικό, μονοήμερο κλινικό σεμινάριο για επαγγελματίες υγείας που επιθυμούν να εφαρμόσουν τον βελονισμό με ασφάλεια και αποτελεσματικότητα στην εγκυμοσύνη, τον τοκετό και τη λοχεία.

Το σεμινάριο βασίζεται σε περισσότερα από 24 χρόνια κλινικής εμπειρίας σε μαιευτικό περιβάλλον μεγάλου νοσοκομείου και εστιάζει στη σύγχρονη εφαρμογή του βελονισμού στην καθημερινή κλινική πράξη. Δίνεται έμφαση στην πρακτική προσέγγιση και στην ασφάλεια της εγκύου, με σαφή αναφορά τόσο στη Δυτική Ιατρική όσο και στην Παραδοσιακή Ασιατική Ιατρική.

Θα παρουσιαστούν: οι φυσιολογικές αλλαγές της εγκυμοσύνης από δυτική και κινεζική ιατρική σκοπιά, οι ιδιαιτερότητες της θεραπευτικής προσέγγισης της εγκύου, καθώς και τα λεγόμενα «απαγορευμένα σημεία» και οι κίνδυνοι κατά την εφαρμογή του βελονισμού.

Θα αναλυθούν: συχνές παθολογικές καταστάσεις της εγκυμοσύνης και η αντιμετώπισή τους, όπως ναυτία και έμετοι, υπερέμεση κύησης, απειλούμενη αποβολή, κεφαλαλγίες, διαταραχές του πεπτικού, δυσκοιλιότητα, πυελικός και οσφυϊκός πόνος, κιρσοί και άλλα κλινικά προβλήματα.

Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά θα γίνει στη χρήση της μόξας στην ισχιακή προβολή, στην προετοιμασία για τον τοκετό, στην ανακούφιση του πόνου κατά τον τοκετό, στη διαχείριση επιπλοκών όπως η κατακράτηση πλακούντα, καθώς και στην αποκατάσταση μετά τον τοκετό και στις επιλόχειες καταστάσεις (π.χ. μαστίτιδα).

Καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του σεμιναρίου θα παρουσιαστούν πραγματικά κλινικά περιστατικά (case histories), εμπειρία από audit σε μαιευτικό περιβάλλον και ενημέρωση για διεθνείς οργανισμούς και πρακτικές στον μαιευτικό βελονισμό.

Το σεμινάριο απευθύνεται σε ιατρούς, φυσικοθεραπευτές, μαίες, νοσηλευτές και βελονιστές.

Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Labour
From the Classics to Contemporary Clinical Practice

An intensive one-day clinical seminar for healthcare professionals who wish to apply acupuncture safely and effectively during pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period.

The seminar is based on over 24 years of clinical experience in a large hospital maternity setting and focuses on the practical application of acupuncture in modern clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on safety, clinical decision-making, and integrating Western medical understanding with Chinese Medicine principles.

The physiological changes of pregnancy will be presented from both Western and Chinese Medicine perspectives, along with the specific considerations required when treating pregnant women. The so-called “forbidden points” and safety issues in acupuncture during pregnancy will be clearly explained.

Common pathological conditions in pregnancy and their acupuncture management will be discussed, including nausea and vomiting, hyperemesis gravidarum, threatened miscarriage, headaches, digestive disorders, constipation, pelvic and low back pain, varicose veins, and other common clinical presentations.

Special focus will be given to the use of moxibustion for breech presentation, preparation for labour, pain relief during labour, management of retained placenta, postnatal recovery, and common postnatal conditions such as mastitis.

Throughout the seminar, real clinical case histories will be shared, along with experience from clinical audit in maternity care settings and an overview of relevant obstetric acupuncture organisations and professional practice frameworks.

This seminar is suitable for medical doctors, physiotherapists, midwives, nurses, and acupuncture students with a basic medical or acupuncture background.

Sarah Budd has a background as a Midwifery Sister and
subsequently trained as an acupuncturist in London and China.
She set up an acupuncture service in Plymouth Maternity Unit in
1988. She then completed a degree in Complementary Health
Studies at Exeter University in 1991, where she won a Churchill
Fellowship, and then went to China again to study acupuncture
anaesthesia. She was given the first and only full-time post as
acupuncturist midwife in the UK. Over 8,000 pregnant women
were treated free of charge with acupuncture on the National
health Service (NHS) in Plymouth, and the service was joint winner
of the Prince of Wales' Foundation for Integrated Health Award in
2001.
Sarah worked as a Research Assistant on the Regulation of
Complementary Medicine, and in the Acupuncture Research
Resource Centre, but has now retired from midwifery. Sarah has
contributed to text books and journals and continues to teach in
acupuncture colleges/universities, through online mentorship, and
recently completed an MSc in Advanced Oriental Medicine. The
research for her dissertation was: "Acupuncture treatment for
Hyperemesis Gravidarum: A modified Delphi consensus study."
Sarah wrote and taught the first TCM course specifically for
midwives in the UK.
In a change of direction, Sarah now uses acupuncture as a
volunteer working with refugees and asylum seekers in Greece
and the UK.
